Sometimes, when I’m looking through a new Stampin’ Up! catalog, certain things speak to me, jumping out of the page practically screaming, “You need to play with me!”. Page 24 of the 2017 Occasions Catalog totally did that. First off, in the bottom right corner are the new Watercolor Pencils. These magical coloring tools turn your image into a watercolored masterpiece in seconds with the use of an aqua painter or blender pen. I love playing with the color, adding shade and dimension with little effort.
The stamp set above the image, Beautiful You, pretty much begs to be watercolored. The sayings are totally speaking my language these days – empowering, hopeful and happy.
This card is my first attempt to use the pencils with the set. Her umbrella and shoes are colored with the Real Red pencil and blended with a blender pen. See how the umbrella has more red on the left than the right? This shading was done by applying a layer of red, blending, letting it dry, and adding more red where I wanted a deeper color. Her hair is Early Espresso, along with the ground color. I wanted the ground to be as soft as possible so, instead of coloring with the pencil onto whisper white card stock and blending, I took the color directly from the pencil to the blender pen and colored with that.
Her dress came from one of my favorite designer series paper stacks, Floral Boutique and uses the paper piecing technique. The crisp navy and white patterns totally speak to the Penn State fan in me! I stamped the image onto the polka dot paper, cut out the dress, and pieced it onto the image stamped onto the whisper white card stock. BOOM! Instant masterpiece! 😉
